- While undertaking specialty training in pediatric cardiac surgery and arrhythmia surgery in the United Kingdom, Prof. Dr. Semih Barlas worked with Leslie Hamilton, B. Sethia and Colin J. Hilton.
- Performed the first arrhythmia surgery operation in Turkey.
- Established and managed the Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery Department at the German Hospital.
- Received training at various centers in Europe on modern diagnosis and treatment of venous diseases.
- In the USA, worked on diagnosis and treatment of varicose veins at the Morrison Vein Institute and at New York University with Nick Morrison, BB Lee, Lowell Kabnick and Todd Berland.
- Since 2008, has focused on varicose vein treatments. Made the American Hospital and MedAmerikan Medical Center one of Turkey’s busiest and most successful centers in this field.
- In 2011, obtained the subspecialty in pediatric cardiovascular surgery.
- Vice President and Member of the Board of Directors of the International Society of Angiology
- Member of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (FEACTS title), the International Society of Angiology (FICA title), the Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, the Organ Transplantation Institutions Coordination Society and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (FSTS title).
