- In 1991-1992, received neuroimmunology training at the Mayo Clinic under the mentorship of Prof. Moses Rodriguez and worked on the experimental model of multiple sclerosis. For this work, was awarded the “Eczacıbaşı Medical Encouragement Award”.
- Became “associate professor” in 1997 and “professor” in 2003.
- In 2001, worked at the Mayo Clinic with Prof. Claudia Lucchinetti and Prof. Brian Weinshenker on the neuroimmunopathological mechanisms of multiple sclerosis, its radiological correlates, and demyelination/remyelination mechanisms.
- Between 2005 and 2018, at the Aziz Sancar Institute of Experimental Medicine and Research, served as a “faculty member” teaching neuroimmunology courses in the master’s and doctoral programs in “neuroscience” and “immunology”.
- Longtime Board member of the European School of Neuroimmunology, member of the BioMS-eu working group, and coordinator of the Neuroimmunology working group of the Turkish Neurological Society.
- In 2016, accepted into the Guthy Jackson Charitable Foundation for Neuromyelitis Optica group as a member of the “International Clinical Consortium.” Currently an active member of this scientific working group, taking part in international multicenter studies.
- Since 2016, serving as a member of the “Scientific Leadership Group” in the MSBase working group, representing our country, an international working group.
- Current work focuses on multiple sclerosis/inflammatory demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system and neuromyelitis optica. The projects primarily aim to identify possible disease biomarkers and to elucidate mechanisms at the immunopathological level through clinical and laboratory studies.
- Main clinical areas of interest:
- Neuroimmunology,
- Multiple sclerosis,
- Neuromyelitis optica,
- Neuro-Behçet syndrome,
- Demyelination/remyelination mechanisms,
- Neuroinflammation.
